Strauss-Kahn questioned over alleged prostitution ring
- Dominique Strauss-Kahn earlier asked to be questioned by authorities
- The questioning is part of an inquiry into an alleged French prostitution ring
- It continues a string of sexual allegations against Strauss-Kahn
Paris (CNN) -- Authorities on Tuesday questioned former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss Kahn as they investigate an alleged prostitution ring operating out of two hotels in France.
Last year, Strauss-Kahn urged police to question him, saying it would help clear his name.
At the time, his attorneys released a statement saying Strauss-Kahn wanted to address the so-called "media lynching" that he says falsely links him to sex parties with prostitutes in Europe and the United States.
The investigation kicked off in October and centered around the northern French city of Lille, where investigators began looking into claims that luxury hotels served as a base for a high-profile prostitution network.
The French press has dubbed the investigation "The Carlton Affair" named after an expensive Lille hotel where some of the alleged trysts occurred.
The incident continues a string of sexual allegations against Strauss-Kahn, a one-time French presidential hopeful.
DSK accuser describes media frenzy in book
He stepped down from the top job at the IMF after a New York hotel maid in May accused him of sexual assault and attempted rape. The case ultimately fell apart after the alleged victim posed significant credibility issues for prosecutors, despite forensic evidence that showed a sexual encounter had occurred.
In France, he later faced allegations of attempted rape from a young French writer.
Tristane Banon filed a complaint, alleging a 2003 attack, though it could not be pursued because of a statute of limitations.
Strauss-Kahn denied the allegations in both cases and has since filed a countersuit in France alleging slander.

Old Bs' double celebration as Saracens slide
OLD Bristolians booked their place in the Charles Saunders Combination Vase final – and consolidated top spot in Gloucester Premier – with a 46-7 double-header victory at Bristol Saracens.
The visitors set the tone for much of the game when No 8 Gareth Graham scored an early pushover try from a five-metre scrum, Jack Price converting.
Saracens rallied with a solo chip-and-chase score from winger David Wright, who also added the extras. But that was as good as it got for the home side as Old Bs forged 26-7 clear at the break and kept the pressure on to clinch a comprehensive win.
Price went on to finish with 21 points, converting his own try and adding three further conversions and two penalties.
Graham crossed for a second score, while there were also tries from winger Steve Forster, prop Nick Cussen and Garth Hannaford.
The second Vase semi-final, between Bishopston and Southmead, is also a league double-header, on March 10.
Southmead remain in the promotion hunt thanks to a hard-earned 21-10 victory at St Mary's.
Prop Gary Sposito gave the visitors a perfect start with an early try, with Ryan Goodman also touching down and Rob Haddow landing three penalties.
At the other end of the table, Bishopston made it three in a row with a 9-6 home win over relegation rivals Old Colstonians.
All the points came in the first half from the boot of Casper Brown, who was making only his fifth start of the season.
Skipper Mike Monaghan, at prop, and No 8 Jonny Jenkins were equally vital figures with stand-out performances.
The result means Bish, at one stage 13 points adrift of safety, are now within a bonus point win of Old Cs and Frampton Cotterell, who tumbled 30-17 at Widden.
In Gloucester Two, leaders Chipping Sodbury forged five points clear with a 15-3 triumph at Broad Plain as second-placed BAC slipped up 8-3 at home to in-form Cotham Park.
Man-of-the-match Jon Alexander, at No 8, claimed his side's try, as Park pushed BAC backwards at a scrum, while Damien Myers added a penalty and also played a key role late on in holding up the home side over the line.
Park have conceded only nine points in their last four outings, and are up to fourth, six points behind Broad Plain with a game in hand.
Holders Dings Crusaders entertain Avonmouth in the Charles Saunders Combination Cup semi-finals tonight (7.30pm).
